Speaking as one who has kept the moon company on many occasions, I fully agree that insomnia has its privileges (even though, you know, it kinda sucks sometimes!) and you've justified the restless nights and the anxiety through this beautiful painting. Did you paint this from your imagination/memory, or were you outside and you painted what you were seeing?
Yes try again! What I find the work is always use your darks first. Then build you can build up the highlights. Paynes Grey is an excellent color to use with clouds. And use a rounded brush. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
Oh thank you so much for your advice! I did build up the darks first, but then I had lots of trouble going lighter. It never got light enough enough actually... I ended up with a messy blob of shapeless dark. Aaargh...But I did use some Payne grey : you are right, it's a great colour. But I never thought of the rounded brush (I wonder if I have one? I'm not even sure! **running now to the art shop**)! So thanks again for the help!
it feels so nice to be the only one awake, doesn't it? the house is quiet and thoughts run twice as fast as during the day... emotions are deeper, in fact I think it's very sensual to me it's easier to stay up to late that wake up early (that makes me a zombie, lol)
Clouds can be an endless, ever-shifting inspiration! It's a great work, I can feel the stillness of the night sky, but there is a sense of slow majestic movement of the clouds too. This atmosphere is captivating.
